If you have pressure vessel on your site then you need to comply with the pressure system safety regulations (PSSR), set out by the UK health and safety executive (HSE) that came into law in the year 2000.

To comply with these regulations, you will need regular vessel inspections at defined intervals as detailed in a written scheme of examination. One requirement also stipulated by the PSSR’s is that the vessel inspections are carried out by a competent individual.

This is where API-510 comes in as it’s a recognized code for pressure vessel inspection and inspectors are formally assessed and certified to these requirements. It’s an excellent way for a pressure vessel operator to demonstrate to the health and safety executive that the inspector is competent if carrying the API-510 qualifications

Published in 1958 by the American petroleum institute, API-510 has evolved over the years into what it is today, along with several supporting codes, covering all the inspection requirements from Ndt to risk based inspection (RBI) methods.
