Recent Health & Safety regulations issued by the BCSA  now outline the mandatory requirements for all steelworker contractors to put in place a third party certified welding quality management system to BS EN ISO 3834 by January 2021.

The National Structural Steelwork Specification for Building Construction (NSSS) is a specification that includes checklists and information that need to be considered and carried out by design.  The principal topics in the NSSS that need to be considered and reviewed are:

  • Information required by the steelworker contractor
  • Material
  • Information provided by the Steelworker contractor
  • Workmanship
  • Welding
  • Bolting
  • Fabrication accuracy
  • Erection
  • Erection accuracy
  • Protective treatment
  • Quality management

The enforcement is following the tragic Grenfell Tower fire and the call for the industry not to wait for legislation and instead take ownership of the specification, application and inspection of intumescent paint systems.

For any fabrication companies looking for support and expertise to ensure risk assessments are in place – we are here to help.

We are on board to help ensure certified welding quality management programmes are in place.
